Ticket for Stainmore Railway Company Heritage Open Day Event Sunday 20th September at 10:30 am.
This year's Heritage Open Day Events at Stainmore Railway Company, The East Station, South Road, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, CA17 4LA is a ticket only event to enable us to comply with current Covid19 restrictions. Participants are asked to arrive by 10:15 so they can be checked in and briefed before the start of their guided tour of our engine shed and workshop, historic Victorian built station with a museum and rolling stock including steam & diesel locomotives, carriages and other items.
This weekend's event will showcase our work on the Sand Wagon owned by the National Railway Museum. Originally thought to have been built by the North Eastern Railway, the restoration work undertaken by our volunteers has shown that is not the case at all!
There is a maximum of 6 (SIX) tickets per tour to enable social distancing and you be required to wear a face covering which can be provided if necessary. As the first part of the tour is in our engine shed which is on rough ground and involves steps we regret it is not suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
To comply with track and trace for Covid19 participants will have to give a contact phone number on arrival which will be retained for 3 weeks after the visit and then destroyed.
The tour lasts 1 hour 15 minutes, there will be light refreshments available to take away and we have a well stocked shop. The event is free and part of the National Heritage Open Day Scheme.
